Queen's College 10th Anniversary {1953-1963}
Tudor Stourbridge
Market Day 1575
Tudor Stourbridge
Market Day 1575
The events represented in the QC Pageant of 1963 were based on the account "Stourbridge Market in Tudor Times", by the late D. R. Guttery of Amblecote, a local historian of repute in the time of Elizabeth I. Further information was gleaned from papers at Hagley Hall. Some of the characters in the play bore names which occur in Guttery's account. It was thought appropriate that the College's tenth anniversary celebrations, occurring in the reign of the second Elizabeth should depict life in the borough in the reign of her great predecessor. The play also depicts Prescott House circa 1246. (Click here for Potted History of Prescott House)
